About Sunshine Garden Centre

During the Christmas of 1989, a young Eamon decided to try his hand at selling Christmas trees in the car park of the closed down Durnsford Road Open Air Swimming Pool. The Lido was extremely popular in the local area, but it was closed in 1988 by Haringey Council.

 

Christmas tree sales proved successful and Eamon took a real interest in the sales and customer service aspect - so much so that he decided to look into the opportunity of opening something more permanent on the site. On St Patrick's Day,Saturday the 17th of March 1990, Sunshine Garden Centre opened its doors for the first time. The remains of the lido were still very evident and the empty swimming pool was surrounded by pallets of compost until it was eventually filled-in shortly after opening. Next to the pool stood an imposing and iconic Olympic-sized diving board, but due to the speed that Sunshine Garden Centre was growing, this had to be sacrificed to create extra space.

 

By 2020, Sunshine Garden Centre has changed aplenty. It celebrated 30 years of trading and has become widely recognised in the garden centre industry as one of the best independent garden centres in the UK.

 

Eamon is still at the helm with the support of long-term business partner, Paul Douglass, and Eamon's youngest brother Patrick. Our General Manager is Eoin Keane, and the café is run by Eamon and Patrick's sister, Sallyanne.

 

We are much more than just a big shop in North London, we are a part of the local community. We employ over 50 full time members of staff and offer opportunities for school leavers and graduates. We support local activities and projects and are always looking at ways we can strengthen our relationship with the community.

 

We strive to set new industry standards in concepts, substance, and presentation, whilst priding ourselves on our customer care. It is our passion to innovate, educate, and lead by example.

 

Our team is the most important part of Sunshine Garden Centre, and they differentiate us from our competitors.  We have nearly 300 years of continuous same site service amongst our team which has helped us build a real depth of knowledge and fantastic relationships with both our customers and supply chain.  Expect to be greeted on arrival with a warm welcome, expect to be assisted in every department when you need it and expect to be taking home some great quality plants and products - our team are always happy to help.
